Edward L. Kimball was an American professor, author, and historian. He was born on January 17, 1923, and died on September 4, 1999, at the age of 76. Kimball was best known for his extensive research on the early history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and its founder, Joseph Smith.
Kimball served as a professor of history at Brigham Young University (BYU) for 24 years, where he taught courses on American religious history and the history of the LDS Church. He was also a visiting professor at several universities, including Harvard and Yale.
Kimball authored several books and articles on the history of the LDS Church, including "The Miracle of Forgiveness" and "Lengthen Your Stride: The Presidency of Spencer W. Kimball". He was a member of the Historical Department of the LDS Church and served as a consultant for the Church's Correlation Department.
Kimball was also a devoted member of the LDS Church and served in various leadership positions throughout his life. In 1997, he was awarded the prestigious Junius F. Wells Award for his contributions to the field of Mormon history.
